Abu Dhabi Police and Dubai Police lowered speed limits in parts of both emirates on Thursday, October 16, after dense morning fog sharply reduced visibility on the roads. The National Centre of Meteorology warned that foggy conditions could persist until around 9am on Friday.

Abu Dhabi Police said speed limits in affected areas were cut to 80kph and urged drivers to follow the variable speed limits displayed on electronic road signs. In its statement, the force asked motorists to "exercise caution due to reduced visibility during the fog."

Dubai Police issued a similar advisory, though without specifying a new speed limit, asking drivers to take extra care on the roads during the foggy spells.

Morning fog is a fairly common occurrence in the UAE during the autumn and winter months, often cutting visibility dramatically and raising the risk of multi-vehicle collisions. Police in both emirates routinely respond to such conditions by urging drivers to keep a safe distance from the vehicle ahead, switch on fog lights and avoid speeding.

The National Centre of Meteorology continues to monitor conditions and issues updated alerts through official channels and smart road signage to keep drivers informed as the weather changes.
