Etihad Rail, which begins Dubai-to-Abu Dhabi passenger service on September 30, will connect its Al Yalayis station in Dubai to the Jumeirah Golf Estates station on the Dubai Metro Red Line. The two stations sit roughly a kilometre apart, and a dedicated steel-framed footbridge is under construction to let passengers move between the two systems without needing a car. September 24, the Jumeirah Golf Estates Metro station spans about 28,700 square metres and can handle 11,555 passengers an hour at peak times, alongside 400 public parking spaces.
From Jumeirah Golf Estates, riders can reach Red Line stops serving Dubai Marina, Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall and Dubai International Airport, while Union and BurJuman stations offer transfers to the Green Line and, at several interchange points, to the Dubai Tram network.
The footbridge is part of Etihad Rail's broader plan to fold the new inter-city rail line into Dubai's existing public transport network. When services start on September 30, the first train departs Dubai station at 6:15am, with four further daily trips scheduled. A Dubai-to-Abu Dhabi ticket costs Dh39 in Comfort class and Dh109 in Premium class.
The direct link between the inter-city train and the metro system is designed to cut reliance on private cars and make daily commuting easier for residents and visitors across the UAE.
