The UAE Ministry of Interior has announced that no traffic-related fatalities were recorded nationwide on the first day of the new school year, a milestone credited to the "Accident-Free Day" pledge campaign. More than 385,700 people registered for the initiative, committing to follow road safety rules, especially near schools.
Under the campaign, eligible drivers who signed up and met its conditions qualify for a four-point deduction from their traffic record — an incentive designed to encourage participation as children returned to school and traffic around campuses increased.
The Federal Traffic Council reviewed the results during its fifth meeting of the year, held via video conference with strategic partners and chaired by Brigadier Engineer Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi. The council confirmed a continuing decline in traffic fatality indicators for the year and discussed further measures to strengthen road safety and emergency response capabilities.
The ministry shared the results through its official social media channels and the Emirates News Agency, WAM. Authorities have repeatedly stressed the importance of road safety around schools in past years, running similar campaigns to protect children during peak school traffic hours.
Officials say the zero-fatality result on such a high-risk day demonstrates how public participation, paired with targeted incentives like the black-point deduction, can meaningfully reduce road accidents. The Ministry of Interior indicated it will continue monitoring traffic patterns throughout the school year.
