Dubai Police and the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) have announced new restrictions on heavy truck movement across more than ten major roads in the city, effective October 1, 2026. The measure aims to ease congestion and improve road safety during peak hours.
Under the new rules, trucks will face a round-the-clock ban on Al Qudra Street, Al Meydan Street, all major intersections, and the Airport Tunnel. On Sheikh Zayed Road, Beirut Street, and residential areas including Al Mizhar, Muhaisnah, and Oud Al Muteena, a 16-hour daily restriction will apply from 6am to 10pm.
Urban roads such as Airport Street, Oman Street, and Damascus Street will see truck bans limited to three peak windows: 6:30am-8:30am, 1pm-3pm, and 5:30pm-8pm. Emirates Road remains exempt from all restrictions and will continue to serve as the main truck corridor.
Companies that must move heavy vehicles during restricted hours can apply for a "Mobility Permit for Heavy Vehicles in Banned Times and Roads" through RTA's Right-of-Way department to avoid violations.
Alongside the new rules, RTA is expanding rest facilities for truck drivers, with 14 of 16 planned stops already completed, and has increased dedicated truck parking capacity by 50%. The initiative is part of Dubai's broader push to manage urban traffic flow and reduce freight-related bottlenecks on busy corridors, as the city continues to grow both its residential and logistics networks.
