Fujairah Police have issued a fresh warning to motorists across the UAE against distracted driving, announcing that anyone caught using a mobile phone or otherwise losing focus on the road while driving faces a Dh800 fine and four black points on their driving record.
In a statement shared on social media, Fujairah Police said being distracted from the road while driving, whether through phone use or any other means, is considered a traffic violation. The force urged drivers to "focus on the road... for your safety and the safety of others."
Under the UAE's black-point system, drivers who accumulate 24 black points within a 12-month period face suspension of their driving licence. That threshold means as few as six distracted-driving violations within a year could be enough to trigger a suspension.
The warning comes amid a broader push by UAE police forces to curb distraction-related violations, which authorities have repeatedly flagged as a leading contributor to road accidents. Even a few seconds of inattention, checking a phone, sending a text or using an app while driving, can be enough to cause a serious collision, police have cautioned in similar campaigns.
Motorists across the Emirates are advised to check their accumulated black points and outstanding fines through their respective police force's official app or website to avoid reaching the suspension threshold unexpectedly. Fujairah Police said the campaign will continue as part of ongoing road-safety efforts targeting careless and distracted driving behaviour.
