The Philippine Consulate in Dubai announced on Monday the launch of an electronic visa system, aiming to simplify travel for applicants heading to the Southeast Asian nation. Consul General Ambrosio Brian F. Enciso III told reporters that the Dubai mission has now joined 94 other Philippine posts worldwide that already offer e-visa services.

Under the new system, nationals of more than 37 countries that require a visa to enter the Philippines, including citizens of Bangladesh, India, Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Lebanon, Palestine, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Ukraine and Yemen, can now submit applications online rather than visiting the consulate in person.

Processing times range from seven to twelve working days for single-entry visas and fifteen to forty working days for multiple-entry visas. Fees start at Dh260 for a single-entry visa and go up to Dh580 for a one-year multiple-entry visa. Depending on nationality, approved stays range from seven to fifty-nine days.

Enciso stressed that the e-visa is strictly for tourism purposes, cannot be extended, and cannot be converted into a work or student visa. "This is part of the strategy to boost tourism in the Philippines," he said. "UAE residents are used to convenience when they're travelling, and now it will be easier for them to go to the Philippines."

For the large community of Filipino expatriates and other UAE residents who travel regularly to the Philippines, the move removes a major bureaucratic hurdle. Previously, applicants had to appear in person at the consulate to submit documents and biometrics for standard visas. The digital rollout in Dubai mirrors a broader push by the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs to modernise consular services across its diplomatic network, reducing waiting times and in-person visits for travellers worldwide.
