The Philippine Consulate General in Dubai and the Northern Emirates began officially issuing e-Visas on October 26, after a two-week testing phase. The move is part of a wider push by the Philippine government to modernise its public services and make the visa process easier for applicants based in the UAE.

Under the new system, applicants can submit requests for temporary Philippine visit visas — covering tourism, business, conferences, medical treatment and other short-term purposes — entirely online, without needing to appear in person at the consulate. The Philippines requires nationals of 37 countries to hold a visa before entry, and consular staff in Dubai say a large share of applicants come from countries including Bangladesh, India, Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Lebanon, Palestine, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Ukraine and Yemen.

Required documents include a passport valid for at least one year, a UAE residence visa, an identification photo, and paperwork specific to the purpose of travel — bank statements for tourists, for instance, or invitation letters for business travellers. The Philippine Consul General said the requirements themselves have not changed; the only thing removed from the process is the need for applicants to show up in person.

Fees vary by visa type: a single-entry visa valid for 7 to 59 days costs Dh260 and takes 7 to 12 working days to process. Multiple-entry visas cost Dh420 for six months' validity or Dh580 for one year, with processing times of 15 to 40 working days. Consular officials say the online system is expected to significantly cut waiting times at the consulate as demand grows among the UAE's large South and Southeast Asian expatriate communities.
