Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that the fifth and final bridge in its World Trade Centre roundabout upgrade will open to traffic on Friday, October 30. The one-kilometre structure links Al Majlis Street with 2nd December Street and forms part of a five-kilometre network of bridges built at a cost of Dh696 million.
RTA Director-General Mattar Al Tayer said the new bridge can handle roughly 3,000 vehicles an hour and will cut travel time between the two streets from six minutes to just one. Average delays at the intersection are expected to drop from 12 minutes to 90 seconds. Al Tayer said the upgrade would directly benefit more than 500,000 residents and visitors who use the corridor daily.
The World Trade Centre roundabout is one of Dubai's busiest junctions, and congestion there has worsened in recent years amid a construction boom and population growth along Sheikh Zayed Road. The five-bridge project, which took several years to complete, was designed specifically to ease that bottleneck.
RTA also pointed to a parallel scheme, the Al Mustaqbal Street development, due for completion in 2027. That project includes 1.5 kilometres of bridges and tunnels alongside a four-lane expansion in each direction. Officials say the two schemes together are intended to reshape transport capacity in Dubai's central business district for the next decade, keeping pace with the emirate's continued population growth and reducing the risk of gridlock around one of its most strategic roundabouts.
