Abu Dhabi Mobility has announced a three-day closure on part of Shakhbout Bin Sultan Street in Al Ain. Two left lanes of the road will be shut from 11:45pm on Friday, October 16, until 6am on Monday, October 19, 2026, according to the authority's official statement.

The closure is part of routine maintenance and road upgrade works being carried out during lower-traffic night hours and over the weekend to minimise disruption for drivers. Abu Dhabi Mobility has urged motorists planning to use the route to schedule their journeys in advance and allow extra time to reach their destinations.

Shakhbout Bin Sultan Street is one of Al Ain's well-known arteries and typically carries a significant volume of daily traffic. With two left lanes closed, vehicles are expected to be diverted onto the remaining lanes, raising the likelihood of slower-than-usual traffic during peak hours.

The works coincide with a separate closure of the right lane of Sheikh Zayed Bridge towards Abu Dhabi, which began at midnight on Saturday, October 17, and will also run until 6am on Monday. Taken together, the two closures suggest Abu Dhabi's traffic authorities are carrying out several weekend maintenance projects at the same time across the emirate's road network.

Transport officials are advising residents and visitors who plan to travel to Al Ain or cross Sheikh Zayed Bridge during this period to check alternative routes in advance and, where possible, postpone non-essential trips until the closures are lifted. Signage has been placed at the affected sites, and traffic police will be monitoring the flow of vehicles throughout the closure period to help keep disruption to a minimum for everyone using the roads.
