Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and chairman of the Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology Council, chaired a meeting on Tuesday to review the emirate's progress across its AI priorities. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and the council's vice chairman, also attended.

The council assessed four key areas: progress on the UAE-US AI Campus in Abu Dhabi, advances in AI research, the development of specialised talent and open AI models, and Abu Dhabi's goal of becoming the world's first fully AI-native administration by 2027.

Sheikh Tahnoon told the meeting that Abu Dhabi's ambitions go beyond simply adopting AI technology, extending to developing the underlying technology itself and restructuring the economy around it. He stressed the need to direct investment, research and international partnerships toward building a lasting scientific and technological base for the emirate.

The meeting comes months after the UAE and the US established Task Force Talon Synapse in July, a bilateral unit based in Abu Dhabi with around 20 American and Emirati personnel specialising in AI, data and cybersecurity for military applications. The initiative forms part of Abu Dhabi's broader push to position itself as one of the world's leading hubs for artificial intelligence development and governance.
