Northern Irish golfer Rory McIlroy has confirmed he will return to the Hero Dubai Desert Classic for its 38th edition, scheduled for January 21-24, 2027, at the Emirates Golf Club in Dubai. As the tournament's most successful player in its history, McIlroy will be chasing a record-extending fifth title.
Explaining his long relationship with the city, McIlroy said he has always considered Dubai a second home, noting that his professional career effectively began there. He first played the event in 2006 as a 16-year-old amateur, then claimed his maiden professional win at the same tournament just three years later, in 2009. He went on to add further Dallah Trophy victories in 2015, 2023 and 2024, bringing his total to four wins at the event.
McIlroy, a six-time major champion, enjoyed one of the strongest stretches of his career after successfully defending his 2025 Masters title in April 2026. He has also won the Race to Dubai title seven times and played a key role in Europe's Ryder Cup victory at Bethpage Black.
His confirmed return underlines the Dubai Desert Classic's standing as one of the fixtures on the global golf calendar, and reinforces Dubai's position as a major draw for international sporting events.
