American Hospital Dubai has opened a new Breast Institute that brings diagnostics, treatment and surgery together under one roof, timed to coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

Sherif Beshara, Group CEO of American Hospital Dubai, said the institute was designed to give patients a single, coordinated pathway instead of being referred between departments. The new unit covers advanced imaging, specialist breast pathology, genetic assessment, multidisciplinary case review, medical oncology and radiation therapy. Dr Marian Khatib, Chief of the hospital's Breast Cancer Centre and a consultant oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgeon, said an integrated pathway reduces the anxiety patients face while shortening the time between diagnosis and treatment.

The institute's standout feature is the da Vinci SP robotic surgical system, which American Hospital Dubai says it is the only facility in the UAE approved to use for breast surgery. The single-port robotic platform allows for more minimally invasive procedures, including oncoplastic surgery and breast reconstruction, with greater precision and shorter recovery times for patients.

The new unit also offers screening and long-term follow-up, so that a patient's care continues to be managed by the same clinical team well after surgery is complete. Its launch comes as hospitals across the UAE roll out awareness campaigns this month promoting earlier detection of breast cancer, which doctors say remains the biggest factor in improving survival rates.

Hospital officials say the model — combining diagnosis, treatment, surgery and follow-up in one unit — is intended to cut waiting times for patients and improve long-term outcomes across the country's healthcare sector.
