The UAE's National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) issued a red alert for dense fog across Dubai and other coastal and internal areas on Monday morning, valid from 3:34am to 9:30am. The centre reported a sharp deterioration in horizontal visibility in several areas, which could drop even further before easing around 9am. It also flagged a chance of fog or mist reforming overnight into Tuesday morning as humidity levels stayed high.
Alongside the fog, temperatures climbed sharply, with Dubai reaching a high of 40°C and a low of 30°C. Abu Dhabi was forecast to hit 43°C, while Sharjah topped out at 37°C. Winds were light to moderate, blowing from the southeast to northeast at 10-20 kmph with gusts up to 35 kmph.
Monday's alert marks another in a run of foggy mornings across the UAE this month, prompting traffic authorities to lower speed limits on several highways as a precaution. Meteorologists are urging drivers to keep a safe following distance, use fog lights, and slow down during early-morning low-visibility conditions.
