Dubai Police confiscated more than 400 e-scooters, e-bikes and bicycles during a road safety campaign in the Gold Souq area, the force announced. The operation netted 300 e-scooters, 50 e-bikes and 58 regular bicycles from riders found violating traffic regulations.
Brigadier Omar Ashour, director of Naif Police Station, said riding in areas not designated for scooters and bikes significantly raises the risk of accidents. He urged residents and visitors to stick to designated paths and wear protective gear such as helmets when using light mobility vehicles.
Alongside the crackdown, police distributed free safety equipment to about 932 workers in the Naif area as part of a wider push to raise awareness about the safe use of e-scooters and bikes. Legal action was taken against riders who breached traffic rules during the operation.
The campaign reflects Dubai Police's ongoing effort to curb accidents linked to light electric vehicles in the city's busiest districts, where a surge in e-scooter use in recent years has raised concerns over pedestrian and cyclist safety on footpaths and dedicated lanes. Officials reiterated that sticking to designated routes, combined with proper safety gear, remains key to preventing injuries to both riders and pedestrians in high-traffic commercial areas such as the Gold Souq and Naif district.
