Dubai Airports' General Department of Airport Security kept a female traveller's handbag safe until she returned to the UAE, after she accidentally left it behind just before boarding her outbound flight. The bag contained cash, a smartphone and several valuable personal items. Director of the General Department of Airport Security, his team located the bag, completed identity verification procedures and contacted the traveller even though she had already left the country. "We offered to send the bag to the country she had travelled to, or keep it safely until she returned to Dubai," Al Hashemi said.

The traveller chose to have the bag held in Dubai rather than shipped abroad, preferring to collect it in person on her next visit. Airport security kept the handbag and all of its contents fully intact until she returned, at which point it was handed back to her in full.

The case illustrates how Dubai's airport lost-and-found system handles items left behind by passengers — a process that includes meticulous logging, identity verification against travel documents, and, when necessary, coordination across borders to reunite travellers with their belongings. Dubai airport security officials have repeatedly pointed to this kind of service as part of the broader passenger-experience standard the airport aims to uphold for the tens of millions of travellers who pass through its terminals each year, reinforcing Dubai's reputation as a hub built on both efficiency and a notably personal touch in how it treats the people moving through it daily, regardless of how brief their stop in the emirate may be.
