Logistics firm Ninja Group has installed a new 355-kilowatt rooftop solar plant at its cold-storage facility in Dubai's Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza), a move the company says will cover around 90 percent of the electricity needed to run the site's refrigeration operations.

The project was carried out with Sun Green Energy, a UAE-based solar installer established in 2016 and registered with several national authorities. The company says it has completed more than 105 solar installations across the UAE and the wider Gulf region. The new system uses high-density, latest-generation solar cells that the installer says are designed to maintain peak output for more than 30 years.

A director at Ninja Group said the goal of the project is to stabilise the company's long-term energy costs and reduce dependence on the national grid for its cold-storage operations, one of the most energy-intensive parts of running a logistics business in the UAE's hot climate. Keeping cold-storage units at low, stable temperatures year-round is typically among the highest recurring costs for logistics operators in the region, making solar investment increasingly attractive for companies with large refrigerated facilities.

The installation adds to a broader trend among logistics and industrial companies based in Dubai's free zones, which are increasingly turning to rooftop solar to cut both operating costs and carbon emissions. The shift aligns with the UAE's wider push to expand the share of clean energy in national power generation as part of its long-term sustainability strategy.
