Air India and flydubai have signed an interline partnership backed by a Special Prorate Agreement (SPA), significantly expanding the reach of both carriers' networks through a two-way connection routed via Dubai.
Under the deal, Air India passengers gain access to 52 additional flydubai destinations, spanning 23 cities in Europe, 21 across the Middle East, six in Africa and two in the Commonwealth of Independent States. In return, flydubai customers will be able to connect through Delhi and Mumbai to 69 Air India destinations across India, Europe, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
The agreement effectively positions Dubai as a pivotal connecting point between Air India's extensive domestic and long-haul network and flydubai's regional footprint, enabling through-ticketing and simplified baggage handling for travellers who previously had to book separate tickets and manage their own transit arrangements.
The announcement comes as the regional aviation sector navigates turbulence linked to ongoing geopolitical tensions. Recent industry data shows Middle East passenger traffic fell by roughly 21 percent in 2026, reversing the 6.5 percent growth recorded the previous year. Against that backdrop, interline partnerships such as this one are becoming an increasingly important tool for airlines to preserve passenger connectivity and diversify route offerings without the capital demands of a full merger or codeshare integration.
Industry analysts note that such tie-ups typically allow both carriers to capture incremental revenue with minimal operational risk, while reinforcing Dubai's standing as a transit hub linking South Asia, Europe and Africa. For travellers, the practical benefit is a wider set of single-booking itineraries connecting Indian cities with destinations that previously required multiple separate reservations and longer layovers.
Neither airline has disclosed a specific start date for ticket sales or flight operations under the new arrangement, though further details are expected to be released in the coming weeks as the partnership is rolled out across both carriers' booking systems.
